Hi! My name is Mike Arny. I am the K-5 Music teacher/Chorus director at W H Robinson Elementary School.
I grew up in Fairfax County, Virginia. I first started band in the 7th grade. Due to the fact that I had braces at that time, the only instrument available for me to play was the flute. I have kept up with that instrument for the past 49 years and have truly grown to love and enjoy it.
I have a Bachelors of Education degree in Music, as well as a Masters of Education degree in Music - both from East Carolina University.
My first teaching position was as an Assistant Band Director in Roanoke Rapids. I then moved to a full time Band Director's position at SouthWest Edgecombe High School, where I also taught band at South and West Edgecombe Schools. My next move brought me to Pitt County where I first taught strings at many schools, traveling from school to school. I was then able to secure a permanent position at Bethel School, where I taught Band, Strings, and 3rd grade music. In 2008 I came to W H Robinson Elementary where I have been teaching K-5 Music for the past 4 years.
I am entering my 33rd year of teaching and am fortunate to have taught at elementary, middle, and high school levels. Each level has its own challenge and abounding rewards.
I have been married for 24 years. I have 2 children. My son is a senior at UNC Wilmington, and my daughter is a sophomore at Pitt Community College.
It is great fun to be at W H Robinson, to work with this great staff and have the opportunity to learn with your student.
